does this sound ok ?
ok i set up the media in my new hang on filter
first it passes through some rough ceramic media that i will wash in tank water when needed and then it passes through a carbon sponge that i will replace monthly
due to the filter shape the sponge must be after the ceramic media

Answer:
That part that you don't replace should be on the other side of the activated carbon filter part. It should hit the filter first so it wont get clogged. Either way you shouldn't wash it as it is where you catch the good bacteria. Other than that it sounds fine. Good Luck
