How to measure fabric for event draping/ swagging decor??
I'm using uprights and crossbars and creating a swag from one end of the room to the other using organza fabric. (Each end of the fabric will be on both sides of the room and I want the fabric to have a swag/drape (?) in the center. Almost looking like a huge hammock above-sorry if this doesn't make sense) I'm trying to calculate how much fabric I need to create a swag from one end of the room the other end of the room. I have the measurements of the room, how would I calculate how much fabric I need to create a swag?

I basically answerd this same kind of question for another lady a few days ago. So I will copy and paste what I had written for her then.

My best advise with swags is that they can be quite complicated, so it's best to get a professional to do it. It also depends on what you consider and call "Swags".
OPTION ONE
Proper traditional swags are done on a headboard, (can be done on a rod) and done to calculations for the pleats & folds. I would always get a professional to do these kind of swags.
OPTION TWO
You can also have fabrics (a big piece of fabric where the edges are roll hemed or a small hem on every side of the fabric)...where you spend time "draping" the fabric over rods, or pulling them through "swag" holders and they can look quite nice too.
Draping fabric over a rod or through a swag holder, is really time consuming, so it's best to do this yourself....cause sometimes it can take 5 mins. Sometimes it can take a few hours!! depending on how much fiddling you do.
This is a good option if you want to be economical. You can just buy a curtain rod. Work out how much fabric you need for draping. Eg. Work out Sides + width, and for swag depths then it's just a matter of roll hemming the edges, and away you go with fiddling.
You can also go to a curtain store and look at their different kinds of swag holders!!! There are HEAPS of them. This is a little easier, as you can put 2 - 3 holders on your window, and just thread the fabric through the holder. (still work out how much fabric you need for sides, width and swag depths).

If you are unsure. definitely go to a local curtain shop. I would definitely go there anyway as there going to have "better" choices of fabrics and will have a huge range of fabric samples.
