Arc and MIG welding advice?
hi, i am a novice welder in arc and mig i can get nice beads of weld now and then, i am looking to buy welder for car panels and i heard mig is the way to go well seems logically enough (less splatter than arc) is this true? also gas less mig vs gas whats the difference? is gas less cheaper in the long run?
also can someone explain inverter welders to me?
e.g. the link below
thanks much appreciated

Answer:
I looked at your Link. I have been welding 30 + years and
haven't heard of an inverter welder.
The Seller on Ebay did not give any specs. on his machine,
you could contact him.
I suspect it might run on a battery, but without a model #?
A mig welder is excellent for automotive use.
Better heat control. Mine has a spot welding attachment
for body panels.
Where I work, we have a suitcase 120 VAC mig unit.
Used for outside projects, gas-less, with flux cored wire.
No gas and flux cored-wire, eliminates the problems
associated with the wind blowing the shielding gas away,
causing a bad weld.
Flux cored wire is more expensive than hard wire.
Never did a cost analyse between gas, hard wire and flux-cored.
You can email with more questions if you want to.
I prefer a mig machine with gas & hard wire for small projects.
For structural, like buildings, gas and flux-cored wire
gives better penetration and can pass an engineers
Field Weld Test.
Hope this helps.
