Does anyone know what this door latch is called - I saw it in a large home on the interior of the front door.?
it was at the top of the door (on both doors) and you had to reach up and pull it down. The top part slid into a metal sleeve or bracket that was mounted on the door frame above the door. The latch was about 10-12 inches long. I need to find one for preventing my 3 year old from opening the front door (he's figured out other child type safety locks)

I think it is called a sliding bolt latch and there are many types for all kinds of situations but they all work basically the same.
