Often we put off doing the houseworkbecause we do not think we have enough time to get things done. However this need not be the case. By planning things out you can actually accomplish a lot surprisingly quickly. Now, we are not suggesting you should be able to tidy up the whole house in a matter of minutes, but rather tackling various jobs around the house in bite-sized pieces. Here are some examples of what you can achieve in just a few moments:
After months of prevarication, now is the time to replace those old inefficient lightbulbs for energy efficient replacements. In just a few moments you could have taken the first step to saving money on your electricity bills.
As the nights draw in and the colder weather beckons, it is time to organise your knitting, sewing or other hobby baskets, so that everything is easily to hand. Put everything in an attractive basket so that it does not need to be hidden away when not in use. Seagrass, sisal or bamboo baskets are attractive enough to leave out in the open.
Tidy up your collection of scented candles and home fragrances in good time for when you will need them most during winter If there are any candles that have just about burned down, then get rid of them , replacing them with newly bought ones. Good quality candles such as those made by companies like yankee candles and true grace candles are worth paying a little bit more for because they smell terrific and burn for a much longer time than cheaper alternatives.
Brighten up any cushions, throws or blankets that have been lying around unused over summer . Pop any that are machine washable into the washing machine . If you are fortunate enough to possess a beautiful pure new wool or cashmere throw, take a few moments to carefully wash it by hand, so it is clean and fresh for use over the dark nights. And remember if any of your decorative throws or cushions are looking a bit battered and bruised then you are surely entitled to replace them!
Many people these days have wooden or laminate flooring in large parts of their home. If so, then then it is likely that they will also have a large rug or two. Rugs, like carpets, require regular attention to look their best. Make sure you vacuum them thoroughly. To achieve really good results you should also vacuum them on the reverse side. You will be amazed at the amount of dirt and debris that will be removed by doing this. Also remember to turn your rugs aroud so that each part receives an equal amount of wear and tear and foot traffic
And, lastly, when you have done all this , you are probably entitled to sit back for a few minutes, perhaps with a chilled glass of white in your hand to reflect on a job well done!
